Dooly County was formed in 1821 and was named for Colonel John Dooly, a revolutionary war hero. The county seat is Vienna (pronounced locally vie-enna) and was named after the capital of Austria. Vienna is home to the Georgia State Cotton Museum as well as home to two annual events that celebrate the area's fine cuisine. Georgia's Official Barbecue Cooking Championship, the Big Pig Jig, is held every October and the Southern Wild Game & Fish Cookout is held every March and features shooting competition, entertainment, and cooking competition.
